Why should I join the Lake Country Retriever Club
Many are the reasons for joining a retriever club. Friendship, love of retrievers, maybe you are a hunter looking for people to hunt with or just looking to improve your days afield.
One of the best reasons is conservation. A well trained retriever is conservation in action. No one likes to waste game but everyone cripples a bird from time to time. The trained retriever is the best and fastest means of finding downed birds.
The most efficient way to turn your retriever into a well trained conservationist is to join a retriever club. In a club you will meet people of all backgrounds; some will have years of experience while others will be just starting out. Many clubs such as LCRC have professional trainers as members who donate their time to help train club member dogs.
Another reason to join clubs like LCRC is the opportunity to participate in organized hunt tests and earn ribbons and titles for you and your dog. Hunting tests are great fun for the entire family. You get to see dogs and meet people from around the country. Some of the people you meet will become lifelong friends even though you may only see them at a few tests each year. Meeting a wide range of people provides you with a network of new hunting partners.
Perhaps you already have a retriever and participate in tests but you do not belong to a club. We meet people all the time that say "why should I join a club? I just want to enter and run my dog." If you live in our region then you should join LCRC right now. Without the clubs there would be no tests to enter. The clubs put out a great deal of effort to provide us all a venue to run our dogs. The regional clubs are highly vocal and visible to the local conservation officers and managers. Three hundred people or more showing up for a two-day event makes a big impression and economic impact. It helps to preserve your rights to use and hunt public lands. The club works closely with conservation managers to ensure that these areas remain open for you to use.
Expectations
LCRC is a volunteer organization. The club has an outstanding reputation for the quality of the events it sponsors. You are expected to provide some volunteer help to the club as a member. If everyone gives some time, then the total burden does not fall on a few persons. Be sure to check areas of interest to you on the membership application. We take new members very serious and the information collected is to track member interests and make the club better for all of us.
What can the club do for me?
